What is Montessori?

Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. Put simply, Montessori focuses on the child’s natural way of development. In Montessori classrooms, children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential. Children learn to live in the moment. In a hectic, hyped-up world, children are given time to truly know things rather than cramming hurried moments.

Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range. Dr Maria Montessori discovered the experiential learning in this type of environment led to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions and much more.  Lessons are doorways to discovery, nurturing concentration and great thinking.

Every material in a Montessori classroom supports an aspect of child development, creating a match between the child's natural interests and the available activities. Children can learn through their own experience and at their own pace.  They can respond at any moment to the natural curiosities that exist in all human beings and build a solid foundation for life-long learning.

At A Country Garden,
the Montessori approach is combined with the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards to provide the very best standard
of education and care.

Our Programs

Strawberry Patch – 6 weeks to 2 years

Strawberry Patch is where our focus is on providing a safe and nurturing environment for babies. We understand and value the special level of trust placed in us by families and the need for your child to build a meaningful connection with an educator. Our educators demonstrate a highly nurturing personality and are carefully selected specifically for this age group.

The routine is flexible to cater to your baby’s unique patterns for play, feeding and sleeping. We use this as a guide to introduce daily activities that will spark their interest and promote healthy brain development. Lots of personal attention and interaction from our educators will also help to develop basic cognitive and social skills.

Every activity carried out with your baby is designed to develop their physical strength and their hand-eye coordination; develop their senses and spatial orientation; develop skills in an environment rich with sights and sounds; and encourage social-emotional interaction which helps to develop their communication skills.

We emphasise the importance of maintaining good communication with parents at all times during this very important time in your family and child’s life.

Blueberry Lane – 2 years to 3 years

A Country Garden’s program for toddlers teaches the value of sharing and cooperation through group play whilst still allowing for individual learning. Children are encouraged to develop friendships and gain confidence as they interact with others. We also aim to identify and encourage every child's own unique set of skills and interests.

Blueberry Lane Provides a safe, engaging and nurturing environment for the child. For the children, the program promotes trust in themselves and their world. They develop confidence in their own unique emerging abilities. They develop gross motor coordination, fine motor skills, and language skills.

Lemon Grove Pre-Kindergarten –
3 years to 4 years

Between the ages of three and five are some of the most exciting years in your child’s life. This is when their curiosity peaks and they rapidly absorb information and are able to apply this new knowledge. Children begin interacting more with other children, start to form social groups and share knowledge and understanding in order to tackle complex challenges.

At A Country Garden we shape our curriculum to specifically meet these growing needs and encourage qualitative learning whilst laying down strong foundations, which are so vital at this age. The Montessori program fosters the growth of functional independence, task persistence and self-regulation. It promotes social development through respectful, clear communication and safe, natural consequences. The classroom contains a large variety of materials for the refinement of sensory perception and the development of literacy and mathematical understanding. It also offers opportunities for imaginative exploration leading to confident, creative self-expression.
